Re: Bellows fabric

Thanks Andrew, I actually knew all that but when you wrote calculate I thought maybe I'd missed something.

Why would back focal length be important?

Re: Bellows fabric

How would you calculate the focal length?

Where would be a good place to sell such a lens?

Re: Bellows fabric

G'day Andrew I acquired the camera and three lenses from a Facebook friend who bought them and some other old gear to save it all from being dumped. One of the lenses is a smaller Ross petzval of about 165mm focal length for which I've built a simple 5x4 box camera, though I've yet to really test it...

Re: Bellows fabric

Thanks Andrew, I appreciate you taking the time to post this.

It may well get me started if nothing else.

How did you go with your restoration project?

Re: Bellows fabric

Hey guys I recently acquired an antique wooden camera. It has no makers markings but from online research it is probably an Underwood Instanto circa 1896. The bellows has been 50% eaten by cockroaches. I've have not been able to find good instructions for making square non-tapering bellows. Could yo...

Re: Ground glass image

A few more tests shots and then a quick drive to capture a few images in the late afternoon, yesterday.

Re: Ground glass image

So I did some experiments and built a prove of concept digital back for one of my sliding box cameras. It all seemed a bit big and clunky so I changed the design so that i could use the digital back on several of my 5x8 cameras. I have several 5x8s as that is my favourite format and one of the restr...

Re: Ground glass image

Thanks Barry, I had considered what you propose, but unfortunately I know too little about optics to work out how one could achieve that.
I quite like the grainy artifacts. In fact I mostly shoot FB paper negs and then oil them before contact printing so that the grain shows in the final print.
