Re: The future of the forum

Thanks Mick. I've enjoyed seeing the images posted by people such as yourself and found the discussions interesting.

There's still several months to run, hopefully someone will be able to take on the forum by then.

The future of the forum

This forum has been going for quite a few years now, and I took it over from Alastair about 5 years ago when he moved overseas. However, I need to trim some expenses, so I’ve decided I won’t renew hosting for this forum when it is due in September this year. If someone would like to take it over I’m...

Sorry, I was a bit slow this time to nuke the spam. I'll leave Maris's reply intact however because it amuses me.

Maybe that should the new rule; if you're going to spam this forum, at least include large format photos, ideally shot on 8x10 :)

Re: ND Grads

Hi Maris,

Thanks for the great tips! I'll have to give some of those a try soon, especially the idea of blanking the two halfs and exposing twice.

Re: ND Grads

Hi Barry, I won't post these test results because they show too much info about my house :) But I might re-do them differently soon and I'll post those. In this test I carefully metered for incident light falling on the scene, but forgot to measure the exposure difference between foreground and sky,...

ND Grads

In another thread I mentioned that I've previously had issues with overcast skies ending up blown-out, so I've been taking advantage of this week's weather to experiment with ND grads. To test, I shot an overcast (urban) landscape with no filter, 1.5 stops, 2.5 stops, and 4 stops of ND grad to get a...

Re: Wanted Omega enlarger power supply-

I've bought a few things from KHB before, although not recently. They're not cheap and they are slow to respond, but they seem ok other than that. If you do buy a 120v PSU, it might be cheaper to buy a step-down transformer for it rather than having it customised. (Make sure the step-down transforme...

Re: Utility building

From memory, it was printed at grade 3 on multigrade RC. (I only use fibre once I know it's going to be worth the effort). The clouds were quite forboding that day, but with this negative even with lots of sky burn-in it just is a grey mess, all detail has been lost. This was metered by hand with an...

Utility building

This image is one that I had high hopes for at the time but I just couldn't make it work. For example there was a large obstruction just out of shot on the right-hand side, and I should have exposed & developed differently to avoid blowing out the clouds. But I couldn't go back to reshoot, this ...
