Re: Ken Wenzel, Landscape Painter

Bravo Maris,
Great talent both sides of the lens in this glorious preternatural portrait charged with the exuberant spirit and personality of Ken Wenzell. Clearly mirrored, also, is the admiration and respect which the photographer holds his sitter.

Re: Hauled Out Boat, Lake Cootharaba

Maris, What a gem! The counterpoint of the ever so slight arc of the water current ripples with the almost imperceptible arc of the ribbing of the base of the hull and the sweep lines to the prow which make this much more than just an upturned dinghy on a sandy, debris strewn shore. Given that you'r...

Re: Fern gully, Toolangi

This is a wonderfully embracing experience of not just 'being there' but of being surrounded and enticed into a fantaasy eorld like children's book in which tree trunks have caricature grimaces. A question for you Mark: does the centre filter clear the front element of the Super Symmar XL 110mm ? I ...

Re: Doug Hall at Imagery Gallery

Maris, Things often become cliché because they work ..... and keep on working. Regardless, it is always commendable to be a pioneer even if it gets to be devalued to 'trendsetter'. On the subject of trendsetters, as an avidly obsessed 16 year old heading through the city on the daily pilgrimage to w...

Re: Rolleiwide repair in Australia

Maris, The collective wisdom is that all the local Rollei aficionados of our personal experience have joined Elvis in having left the building. In view of the current value of any Rolleis, let alone Tele- or Wide variants, at anything up to $7,500, it would be foolhardy to risk disaster. On that bas...

Fallacy #1,
Page 1,
Paragraph i a) Never take pictures between 10:00am and 2:00pm
Proof yet again, as if it was needed, that 'seeing', shooting, craft annd art areway too big to be constrained by Rules. Glorious celebration of geometry, texture and aberration,

Re: Cooloothin Creek Swimming Hole

On my little laptop screen the sunlit clusters of foliage throughout stand out in almost 3-D relief — quite marvellous, I wonder if that's possibly a function of having just a modicum of grain for the pixels and the eye to grab onto? Marvellously seen and printed, Maris.

Re: Connie

Aaaah, those ads in camera magazines back in the day: Voigtländer ....... because the lens is so good. My first proper camera when I was leaving school was a Mamiyaflex C2 with a Mamiya-Sekor 105mm 1:3.5 lens which was an absolute cracker and, I believe it was a Heliar design. The 'directing' is to ...
