Re: Commercial Guy Still Using Film

Thanks John, I think you are right about your isolation out west, after my last posting I got thinking about how many Australian large format silver based landscape and/portrait photographers I could think of, and came up with about a dozen full-timers on the east coast, several of which have their ...

Re: Adieu Kodak

I own a kodak shop, and even I've started stocking up on tri-x in all formats, after all why would anyone want to buy anything other than the name off Kodak. They could hardly have made a bigger mess of film and paper if they'd tried, now that movies are going digital it's going to be a niche market...

Re: WTB: Cambo 4x5 ground glass

Maris, I too have been making my own for about thirty years, dead simple, exactly as you described, good advice, don't need a workshop, I do it on my kitchen table, very satisfying.

Re: Commercial Guy Still Using Film

That would be a shame John, you have a lot of experience to share. There still are silver print photographers in Australia, but funnily most don't print themselves. the fact that Cris Reid can make a living from printing for others shows how many still need a good silver print. I own a kodak shop on...

Re: What enlarger light source

I bought two 4x5 enlargers off fleabay. One was a durst L1200 which came from the gold coast hospital-like new, cost $99 complete with two Beard easels. Other was an Omega D5 with ilford multigrade head and three componon lenses-works perfectly for $76, got from Allchrome in brisbane when they moved...

Re: Jobo Print Drums and extension drum

Funnily enough despite all the theory I've had to give up on roll film in the 2500 tanks and go back to the 1500 series, I still use the 2500 series for 8x10 film and my 3013 for 4x5, but I found the reels for the 2500's covered more of the edge of the roll film than the smaller ones and I had probl...

Re: Question regarding usernames

That sounds like a much better idea I will happily give any form of identification, but for reasons stated have a problem with using my real name on the forum. I should add that before I changed from my real name on photo.net I even got phone calls at home from some idiot wanting advice on a subject...

Re: Question regarding usernames

Actually I would have a real problem with that. Last time I used my real name on photo.net I got a solicitors letter from my ex-wife of ten years before claiming more alimony because "I obviously could afford an expensive camera" Apparently he was under instructions to google my name once ...

Re: The bit I hate most..

I second the tank idea, I use unicolor, cibachrome and jobo tanks on motorised bases and get perfectly even developement every time, and have done for 30 years, never going to change now!

Re: Direct or Indirect Shifts?

Andrew, funnily enough I do the exact opposite and have done for 30 odd years. My process for environmental portraits and urban and industrial landscapes (I don't photograph landscapes without man made elements) is to aim the camera at a the subject, level it in both directions and then use rise or ...
