Re: Morning Tea, Sunny Verandah.

Brilliant picture there Maris. No Doubt you used some of this as suggested by the book. Very witty! I too should look for more Zone things. Actually the light for this shot was brilliant enough to totally ignore the Zone System. I reckon the key part was the photographer calling out to th...

Re: As seen in a clothing store window, Melbourne's Emporium.

Whatever it is it still symbolises "camera" even though no one, present company excluded, has one or uses one. Maybe it's like the curious warning sign at a railway track crossing that shows a steam locomotive in profile. Everybody thinks "train", even people who may not have see...

Re: We ALL Already Know This

Not bad for a light-weight presentation. And I'd have to agree with the implication that if (if!) photography is making pictures out of light sensitive materials then photography, future, present, and past, will keep it's seamless identity probably as ART . I doubt that photography will play much of...

Glasses and Pears.

The glasses and pears were near a window that caught the sun in the afternoon. After rearranging the ingredients a bit I thought a soft focus lens could accentuate the luminosity of this still life...win. Or the rendition could be excessively mannered...fail. Can't always tell with stuff intended to...

Storm Cleft Tree

In contrast to Barry Kirsten's glorious and vibrant back-lit Red Gum here is a sombre scene - sad and elegant at the same time, maybe: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4111/5191313960_3d4b03686b_b.jpg Storm Cleft Tree Gelatin-silver photograph on Agfa Classic MCC111 VC FB, image area 24.6cm x 19.6cm, f...

Re: Ebor Falls

I'd like to see it with that bit of white water at the bottom of the image cropped out; just a little distracting. Either that, or possibly include more of whatever it is there so that it is resolved? Having said that. I doubt I would be happy to achieve it at the expense of the hinterland at the u...

Re: Ebor Falls

Viewpoint? Easy! There's a cliff-top viewing platform off the Ebor Falls Walking Track that fronts the upper cataract. A 300mm lens uses nearly all the Tachihara bellows but it tightens the composition nicely. The landscape above the falls is dodged somewhat and the large areas of white in the falli...
