4x5 point and shoot.

Well I went and threw together a 4x5 point and shoot made of pine laminate (as a test... if/when I complete it I will have it remade of either hardwood or perhaps black acetal) At this stage the body is about 7mm too thick and I do not know how to bring it down accurately... Obviously I dont want to...

Re: More panoramic action.

The first time I looked at a 4x5 velvia 50 slide, I just about dropped to my knees wondering why I shot digital for so damn long.... I regularly look at 4x5 and 6x12/6x17 slides and think to myself... This is it. Photographic ecstasy. The idea of a 7x17 RVP50 slide almost brings tears to the eye... ...

Re: The Wonder Of The Contact Print

Deal :)

I have recently become intrigued by the contact print... How its done, what is required...

The intrigue also has me looking at 8x10 stuido cameras for portrait work... Obviously a 4x5 contact print would be a little silly.. but 8x10 or bigger would be fantastic...

Re: More panoramic action.

Contact printing generally doesn't use the enlarger at all, as you are not enlarging the image. You are basically making an inverse copy of the negative onto paper, or a paper positive. You sandwich the neg emulsion side down to the paper inside a contact printing frame, then place the frame face do...

Re: More panoramic action.

I wouldnt use an enlarger, rather just pressing the negative, emulsion side down against the light sensitive paper and exposing it to light, then developing the print paper... You could make a custom printing frame and darkroom easel to hold the frame, neg and paper pressed together, and then expose...

Re: More panoramic action.

Agreed... When I was considering formats to start shooting film, I got an A3 sheet of paper and drew all the format sizes so I could visually see them side by side to get an idea of how big and small formats were.... I came from a DX DSLR, with a 18x24mm sensor.. Seeing that next to 35mm, then that ...

Re: Direct or Indirect Shifts?

Agreed. With my 75 I find I have to fight the zero detent to get the right amount of front tilt for landscapes.. its pretty tiny.. I find that depending on the shot I have been aggressive on swings, but with tilts on wider lenses you really only need a fraction of tilt to bring everything up super s...

Re: The Wonder Of The Contact Print

I would love to see a 7x17 contact print... Or, if by chance you do win powerball and get some 7x17 velvia, I would pay a viewing fee just to see it on a light table!! :D
