Re: Founding Saint, Castle and Even More Ancient

That's a nice one of the Saint Cuthbert statue and the distant Lindisfarne Castle framed between trees. It may be an unworthy thought but I wish Saint Cuthbert would come back momentarily and with a wave of his holy hand cause to disappear that modern background building interposed exactly on the li...

Re: Hazardous Destination

Nice one! I'm a easy mark for staircases, corridors, and forest paths. The imagination always wants to walk to the end. In these parts a scene like that could lead to paradise garden, or the bridge could be out, or there's a well grown patch of dope. All worth seeing.

Re: Sunny Couch.

Alex, soft focus lenses work with spherical aberration where a sharp "core" image is overlaid by a out-of-focus one. The proportions of "sharp" and "soft" are exquisitely sensitive to f-stop. With my 450mm meniscus lens f9, f10, f11, and f12 all look different. Close st...

Re: Isle of Mull, Inner hebrides, UK and Parramatta, NSW, Australia

Walter, superb pictures and an intriguing and informative backstory! The second picture has a familiar 4:5 aspect ratio but all the others are 1:2 or 2:1 so I have to ask if they are a well ordered crop or were you using a special camera. I follow your work and don't see the panoramic format very of...

Re: Sunny Couch.

Good memory Walter! It's the other (better?) half of the team, Zigi Georges, who has done enough large format photography to tolerate a bloke on a ladder looking down at her through a ceiling height 8x10 view camera. She insists she is quitting commercial photography, resigning from the AIPP, gettin...

Re: High Key Lines

This I like! Firstly because it's really well seen and composed and secondly because it illustrates a pet theory of mine. To make a large area of white look even whiter include some black "keys", small areas of black maybe 2 or 3 percent of the picture area. And the process also works in r...
