Re: The 8x10 is ready to see duty .....

I've taken my 8x10 camera out finally and while it is significantly heavier than my 4x5 cameras, it's not an impossible thing to lug around. I must say that composing an image on that huge ground glass is well worth the effort. When I'm ducking under the focus cloth and the ground glass fills my per...

Re: Real visits

Thank you for your kind offer, John. If I make it over that side of the country, which I plan to do sooner rather than later, I shall certainly take you up on your offer! I'll bring my own whisky!

Re: The 8x10 is ready to see duty .....

My 8x10 came with me to work yesterday to go for a shoot at lunchtime. It is quite a thing to be shooting on such large ground glass. I can only imagine how the ULF guys feel with their cameras! Hopefully will put the sheet through the trays this evening and see how I got on but, Walter, you definit...

Re: WTB: Tripod head suitable for Cambo 8x10

Isn't there a stronger (and heavier) version of the 410 which is also relatively cheap second hand? Otherwise, the Arca Swiss heads are fantastic if budget permits. There's a strong, heavier and more expensive ($500+) version of the 410! I have considered it. I've got a ball head I used to use on m...

WTB: Tripod head suitable for Cambo 8x10

Hey chaps, I took my 8x10 out for it's virgin shoot this lunchtime. While I got my shot in the end, wrestling with the camera directly on the tripod was less fun than I had hoped for. Using the camera was beyond wonderful once I'd got the camera into place! Absolutely magnificent composing on that m...

Re: Direct or Indirect Shifts?

I hope I don't come across as though I am preaching the "Tao of Photography", but with LF work knowing your medium and approaching it with a good balance of technique and vision is crucial, the word is balance Not at all - for me I've been shooting large format for a year now and so have ...

Re: The Wonder Of The Contact Print

What paper do you contact print 5x4s on? On 8x10 paper or smaller and then mount them on 8x10 mat board? Would love to see some of those!

Re: What enlarger light source

Enlargers are cheap all right. Over the years I got a 35mm one (Durst) , three 4x5s (Omega, Gilkon, Meopta), a 5x7 (Durst 138) , and a 8x10 (Durst 184) all for free apart from the cost of going and collecting them. It's unlikely I'll get around to using them all! I've found 35mm and 120 enlargers c...

Re: What enlarger light source

You can pick up enlargers almost for free and developing film and developing paper is the exact same process. It's amazing fun working with an enlarger, you also get to do it with the (red) lights on! I'm bidding on a new enlarger on eBay, currently at $35 with only a couple of days to go. Of course...
