As I scrolled down the picture after opening this thread, I saw the floating leaves and immediately thought, filter, red or deep orange? I then read your text and noted it was a red, I think use of that filter really lifts this. I've never read that Thoreau excerpt before, certainly fits this scene....

Great positioning of the subjects, the wave is good, but I think the position of his hat is perfect. Its angle to the sun, the shadow underneath and of course, the brightness of the hat itself. Which in turn, draws you in to the subjects themselves.

Very nice Maris, after the brutal cropping on the right side, did you consider further cropping from the top and bottom?

Nice lens, must be in a big shutter, or are you using a top hat? :o

They usually do look better in the flesh, sharper and with a better visual contrast. In 1975, which was nearing the end where we did glass plates at work, I had a go at coating plates myself. Your shadow detail is pretty good, along with your highlight retention, you appear to be on the money now with the technical aspects.
