WTD: wide 8x10 lens

Sorry i just saw your post saying you'd got one. Is it the same as mine or is it the newer model with writing on outside of barrel (which apparently has less coverage than older model)

Re: Ryan, Jake & Simon

Simon is also a really talented young photographer from down here. Shooting digital, 35mm and medium format film. I've been letting him mess around with my LF camera from time to time and he's super committed to what he does.

Ryan, Jake & Simon

Three plates from today. I really dislike scanning these things. They are really hard to scan well. They are much nicer in the flesh and smell nice too :) I am very slowly getting the hang of it all. But still quite a ways to go. As far as portraits go these are pretty uninteresting poses. I don't h...

Re: What I've been up to

At this rate, Alastair, it looks like it's going to be the only way I make images. Seriously considering selling off all my other camera gear to fund this project. Here's an 8x10 plate from today. I was having lots of issues with peeling collodion in the fixer. Got a little advice and sorted that ou...

Re: CR Kennedy's customer service is crap.

The only dealing I've had with CR Kennedy was to get my hasselblad sent off to some fellow in Adelaide who apparently is Australia's only certified Hassy repairman. The customer service from the CR Kennedy end was very average. It seems they're probably used to dealing with more high-volume, industr...

Re: What I've been up to

It's hard to say how much I'm spending per plate, Josh. There's a lot of cost factors. The glass costs me $130/meter (but if you don't like an image you can simply clean it off and re-use the plate). The silver costs about $100 for a 1 litre tank (about 90g) that will last for a long time given prop...

What I've been up to

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've posted here. I haven't fallen off the end of the earth, well, I did for a while but I'm back again. I've been super busy cramming my head trying to learn this wet plate collodion stuff. Any other form of photography has taken a backseat (IE I'm not doing an...
