Re: Finished my Australian Democrats* storage box.

Thanks Lachlan, that looks just the place. I've found no problem with metal screws and bolts; I was surprised recently to be able to get small metric screws for an enlarger from Ultimate Fasteners in Shepparton; but wood screws are a real PITA to find in Aust. Thanks again.

Re: Finished my Australian Democrats* storage box.

Looks fantastic, Lachlan. I presume it has padded partitions inside? Looking at a magnified view, the thought popped into my mind that you might have an idea where to buy very small wood screws, suitable for use in camera making, the sort of things shown here, for example. You don't see anything lik...

Re: Nude and Tree, Alexandria Bay.

I'd never considered that, Maris, but I'm sure you're right. I've meditated on this image since I saw it, wondering on the source of this dominance, and I see that it's not in the expression but rather the eyeline relationship between subject and viewer. A very interesting image. Thanks for the lear...

Re: Bracket Fungi, Again.

An interesting image, too. As I looked down the image I was intrigued by the bark pattern and wondered what the host species was, as many fungi are host-specific I believe. My question was answered by the caption - Banksia. I'll have to do more of these as there are many types with interesting patte...

Re: Good photo locations in Tassie (minus the usual suspects!)

Good question, Lachlan. Surprisingly there's little map info that I could find on the web. Best I could do was Google Earth, which seems to show Russell Falls Ck running roughly N-S. This is usually the case in southern Australia, where ultimately most rivers and creeks flow south to the sea. A bit ...

Re: Good photo locations in Tassie (minus the usual suspects!)

A poor scan of the lower drop (HP 4890, says it all), and as you can see the flow was poor. You get a view of the upper drop above and to the right. Russell Falls web.jpg Here is a 35mm view of the upper falls. There is a wide rock ledge there, and if you're lucky to have good flows when you visit, ...

Re: Good photo locations in Tassie (minus the usual suspects!)

If you're going down to Mt Field, Russell Falls are worth a look - three sections from memory: upper, middle and lower. I'd say it could be disappointing in low rainfall, as it was when we were there, but a pretty place, all the same. I'll look out a neg tomorrow and give you an idea of what to expe...

Backlit Red Gum

This is hard to print in the darkroom, so thought I'd have a go in Lightroom, although my digital skills are pretty poor. I'd appreciate any criticisms or suggestions. Hogarth Falls, Tas

This charming place is in the People's Park in Strahan, about a 40 min walk from the car park. We set off at 4.30 pm, and in April the afternoon was coming to an end. By the time we reached the falls, the light was fading fast and it was a rush to set up while there was still an image on the ground ...
