Re: A few more for my Silos series...

That's grand architecture made grander by the flat landscape and dramatised by a bold filter selection. The combination of a red filter and a polariser can lead to density wedging in a very dark sky but here it's done perfectly. Perfectly!

Re: Convict Graves, St Helena Is.

Crikey, that's about as good as it gets. Just look at the big black crosses and how the shapes run close to one another but do not overlap. And the one on the left with the double flare spot is extra strong. Usually a flare spot is a fault but here it acts like the dot on an exclamation mark turning...

Re: Seaside Idyll

Warmtone, you are not wrong. The picture was about light and luminosity but those qualities by themselves can accumulate to an insipid result. Curiously, to make a thing look light it is often an effective device to put something dark next to it. In this photograph it is the ridiculously picturesque...

Re: 80mm enlarging lens advice

I'll second the choice of an El-Nikkor. The 80mm f5.6 example I use has successfully mapped every grain of every negative I've offered it onto photographic paper. One can't ask for more.

Re: Roadtripping up to Sunshine Coast... suggestions for pho

The one place between Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast where I've always exposed film is Lake Jindabyne; big lake, big deciduous trees, big sky, drive right to the edge at many points, convenient shops, pub, accommodation. But don't underestimate the Sunshine Coast itself. Coolum features Point arkw...

Re: My shots (from around tassie)

I agree with Lachlan717. The picture without the patch and the post is more concentrated. The tense eyeline between the tree and the mountain makes for a strong image. Incidentally, is the mountain Quamby Bluff?

Re: Film fogged in holder.

I'm pretty sure it's not the Fomapan. I've used about a thousand sheets of Fomapan 100, 200, and 400 in the 4x5 and 8x10 formats and so far no defects...fingers crossed. The "Film fogged in holder" picture is more an indictment of slack workshop practice. New 8x10 holders smell a bit and I...
