Re: Valleys and Dam

Hehe, I think Adobe Lightroom was supposed to be a sort of digital light box for negative/tranny viewing/organising/slightly modifying and an alternative to Photoshop. I think it became very popular. For me, I hate anything to do with computers in image processing, but like many have come to realise...

Re: Valleys and Dam

Mick, I was going to respond to this image the other day, partly in reference to Gimp, but with a mention for Darktable. But since you seemed committed to Gimp I bailed out of the post. Having read what you want to do, I reckon Darktable is probably more suitable for you, and easier to learn. It's a...

One of my favourite forest types and beautifully seen and executed by you, Mark. This is why we do LF B&W.

Re: Cooloothin Creek Swimming Hole

It's hard to understand some people. Who would want to swim in a dirty and dangerous spot like that when there are pristine beaches nearby? A worthy subject for photography, though. I notice you used Fomapan 200 Maris. It seems to perform well enough. Was the light rather flat? I have a fresh box of...

Re: Warehouse Wall and Door

Nevertheless the image creates a feeling of excitement with its strong horizontals and verticals and the high contrast light. And the slanting shadows of the lights above the door modified by the corrugations provide interesting geometrical counterpoint. A very worthy subject to photograph, Maris, a...

Re: Tales of a mis-spent retirement?

Hi Walter, good to hear from you and hope you're doing well. No it's not a Sinar panel. It turned out to be 118mm square. I was concerned about bellows flare/vignetting and wanted a decent size all round to prevent it, consistent with keeping the overall size of the camera as low as possible. So the...

Tales of a mis-spent retirement?

Something I've been working on all this year, a folding 5x7 with good range of movements. Made of Huon Pine from Tasmania, a beautiful timber prized for boat building (unaffected by water) and fine furniture making. I considered the traditional teak, mahogany, cherry, walnut etc but could see no rea...

Re: My Mother's Kitchen

A very thought-provoking question, Maris. My house reflects my busy life; with so much on the go I'm afraid all of my areas are a mess and I wouldn't know where to begin getting things in order for my departure. I admire very much your mother's wish to leave everything in order. I think it's difficu...

Re: Lake Cootharaba, Swings

As a matter of interest, Maris, what developer did you use for the negative? I intend using my all-time favourite PMK, which from experience gives beautiful expansion particularly to fully exposed highlights.
