Re: Boulder, Bald Rock National Park

Ah, but what a photograph! Beautifully seen, Maris! To me there doesn't seem to be anything special about the rock itself, but its setting gives it drama and boldness which you've captured and emphasised. I'd say the declaration of a state of emergency would have been justified to ensure the surviva...

Re: Tea Tree Bay #3

Hi Mick, Have a look at Green.L filters from China. I have several of their IR and ND filters in various sizes and cannot fault them. Their 67mm IR is described here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-L-67mm-IR-720-Infrared-720nm-X-Ray-IR-Glass-Filter/153560561515?hash=item23c0ec376b:g:~F0AAOSwM7lcb2Xu...

Re: Tea Tree Bay #3

You saw the great composition though, and with the film/filter combination there was a good chance things would turn out well, and they did! I never used the Efke IR film but I've seen many great images done with it. It was a sad day when Efke closed down. I have some Efke 25 4x5 in the freezer and ...

A stunning image, Maris! I love IR film; it challenges our sense of reality but has its own reality which grabs our attention, as in your image here. Bravo!

Re: Garage Portrait Session

Hi Mick, thanks for the thought. I already get my stuff from Ellie, especially now she is carrying more stock. I usually wait until she has an exhibition I want to see and pick up some supplies at the same time. She's a lovely person and has a good little gallery. Worth a visit if you haven't been t...

Re: Saying hello

Hello Albert and welcome to the Forum. This is a quiet little place but inhabited by some very accomplished and supportive photographers. I'm sure you'll get a lot of help if you but ask. I know film photography can be a bit intimidating, especially when you jump into the deep end with a 4x5! I thin...

Re: Garage Portrait Session

Mick, thanks for your very detailed and informative reply. Yes those sample images are great! No other words needed. Very hard to get that detail, snap and glow, right through the tonal range. Very impressive. On your recommendation and the comments of others I've read there's no excuse for not tryi...

Re: Garage Portrait Session

That's a really nice image, Mick, and I note your favourable comments about the film. Can I ask you how it compares with the various Kodak and Ilford films? Is there a particular quality you like above the others? I'm thinking of ordering some Foma from Blanco, mainly on price. I've heard both posit...

Re: Missing In Action

Good on you, Walter. There will come a time when all of us will have to downsize both in what we use and what we'll be able to do. But as long as we still have the creative urge we'll derive great satisfaction from our art. Best wishes for the future.

Re: WTB 5x7 film holders, 80mm 5.6 el nikkor.

G'day Walter, great to hear from you, and I hope you're back to full strength. I've tried to contact you previously, without success. Yes, I agree about using a longer lens, but for me at the moment it's a matter of economics. I have the 135 El Nikkor I got from you, which is great for 6x9s which I ...
