Re: Leaf Fall

Ah, alas Walter, there is no Daylight Saving in Queensland. Now that I'm no longer working for the man I can start early, 5am EST usually, and get into the darkroom by six. I figure I'll push paper through trays for a couple of hours and then go out and shoot film. Moments pass and when I glance at ...

Leaf Fall

There are some dark and cold autumn days that surely confirm that winter will close in soon. The poplar trees on the shores of Lake Jindabyne are casting off their yellow leaves and are getting ready to sleep until spring. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/643/22037833106_b58f060100_c.jpg Autumn Leaf Fa...

Wet Negatives

Doesn't every one hang wet negatives in a bathroom? Note the surgical forceps. They never let go even if they grab as little as 1 millimetre of the negative corner.

Yep, it's a screamer. When I was spotting it (Spotone, tiny brush, and all that) I looked up after a minute or so and found a negative after-image "burned" into my retina!

Re: Trying out the new kit

The Toyo 45 AX is nice and I tried one. But I decided on a wooden Tachihara at almost half the weight. The Tachi is good to carry but it simply doesn't deliver the sense (and confidence) of precision that a metal camera like the Toyo does. Delightful street scenes, by the way. Film speed test #2 loo...

Ok, I'll bite. Curiosity without resolution is a tease. Which filter on which picture? And why?

Re: War Time Nissen Huts — various levels of adaptive re-use

Walter, those Nissen huts are visually fabulous. I reckon they are an example of "form forces function" rather than the other way around. And the basic versions were horrible to live in. I've frozen in a Nissen shaped refrigerator in Victoria and roasted in a Nissen shaped oven in North Qu...
