Re: North West Tasmania

Thank you, Walter. I’ve tried to highlight the quality of light in this. Even though the air is so clear and it was very sunny, the light in Tasmania has a softness about it which we just don’t get on the mainland with the sun higher overhead. The ground underfoot was equally uneven I’m afraid, extr...

Re: Old train

Great photographs, John. They really capture the decay and passage of time well. It looks like you have a wealth of potential subject matter for details too if that takes your fancy. Just further to Walter's comment regarding Ektar, I find a useful filter to have on hand is an 81b or similar. Ektar ...

Re: Is Colour Out Of Bounds?

It's never out of bounds for me, Walter. A beautifully crafted 8x10 transparency is a work of art all of its own. The initial simplicity of the image reveals layers of detail when you take the time to to explore the image.

Rock Pool self portrait

Walter inspired me to dust of a shot from a few years ago. At the time I got the film back from the lab I was rather disappointed to see just how much of a shadow the camera and tripod leg cast because the cloud was so heavy I didn't notice it by eye. I'm going to embrace the silhouette now https://...

Re: Art Deco Geometrics

Walter, I'm really enjoying this series of images your sharing with us. They capture a part of Australia which is slowly and quietly disappearing in the name of "progress". I doubt the polystyrene and cement render boxes that are springing up like mushrooms will have the same enduring appe...

Re: Fern gully, Toolangi

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I rarely use the 110mm on 8x10 but this was an instance where it was go wide or keep walking. Without the CF it would have been a struggle to hold any detail in the shadows at the bottom of the frame given the brightness in the top right. Walter, Schneider recom...

Re: Exhibition: Relicts - Exploring the Flora of Gondwana

Thanks, Warmtone. Yes, timing is everything. It was amazing how quickly the situation with Covid changed in Tasmania. The exhibition was only officially open for two days when the WG mad the decision to close. They have been able to reopen and it will be up until the 16th of November so at least the...

Re: Result Creek Falls

Great to see your East Gippsland photos, Barry. Very bittersweet though given the devastation that this special part of the country has suffered. I first visit Result Creek back in the early 90's. The track was easy to find and well sign posted. The last time was 2011. The track was completely overg...
