Took this last week when visiting the Petrified Forest near Portland Victoria, around 25 years between visits.

Not too sure if it is a bit busy, thoughts?

Few things more pleasing than irregular forms, irregularly arrayed.

Thanks Walter, normally I would agree with you, but somehow I have doubts about this one.

Clever abstraction, no sense of scale. That irregular foreground shape could be a metre across or it could be a mesa with a pine tree growing in the gulch on the right: engaging visual tension.

Maris, thank you for your input.

My greatest valued critic and I had a discussion, this is a crop of the whole, she and I worked out another possibility. As usual, her points are beneficial and I think, as usual, she is right. This new version, should give a greater sense of scale.

I'll get another version up in a day or two.

Well, here is another version with much more of the upper area of the negative included, as discussed between my wife and I. I originally wasn't sure whether to make it more abstract, but I have been (partially) convinced that this is a better version.

The upper left, is an expanse of the Southern Ocean or Antarctic Ocean, as I believe is the correct terminology these days.

Thoughts?

Mick.

Much as I am invariably a fan of context and the wider framing, in this particular instance I prefer the more portrait framing of the object itself.

Even Cecil B de Mille probably had a good editor so you are blessed in have a concerned and helpful partner in crime at your side.

Thank you for your thoughts, I'm tending to agree with you there.
