Which is the best tone? I plead that the question is too hard. These pictures are extremely stylized and owe very little to ordinary concepts of full tonal range, neutrality, and realistic rendition. They are a thing unto themselves and Bazz8, the artist merely has to designate one as the best and it becomes so. The larger principle is that an artist in full control of their own materials and techniques cannot be wrong whatever they produce.

A good point taken Maris I think the lightest toned print,i am aiming for a yesteryear style of image in which i have succeeded
I did some contact prints on x-ray film yesterday creek crossing and Gum trees with some stone work in the set.

I think the middle one would work best, it will allow for some lifting of the heavier areas as the image starts to fade. Thereby allowing your relatives in 100 years to marvel at old Bazz and how good he was.

Maris, has some very valid points.

Mick.

I'd suggest that the preferred option should be governed purely by the intent of the author. As viewers we would be presented a visual statement about the photographer's interpretation of the motif.
