Split Rock

Postby Walter Glover » 14 Jan 2016, 17:37

Aaah, how can we ever understand the yearning of life's longing for itself? Here the power of new life has been such that the seed of a eucalypt has cleft in twain a solid block of sandstone.

Yes, an evocative scene with appealing connotations; and a mystery. Maybe the eucalypt seed found a sheltered and moist spot in a pre-existing crack in the rock and has taken advantage of it. Maybe it really did muscle its way into the light. There's plenty of examples up here in the sub-tropics of innocent looking trees cracking roads, tilting footpaths, and bustin' driveways.
