Gelatin-silver photograph on Fomabrom Variant 111 FB VC photographic paper, image area 24.2cm x 19.5cm, from an 8x10 Fomapan 200 negative exposed in a Tachihara 810HD triple extension 8x10 view camera fitted with a 400mm single meniscus lens in a Copal #3 shutter.
Signed, titled, and stamped verso.

Hi Maris, a lovely moving image that conveys a message of deep respect for the departed.
The soft focus lens and composition provides a powerful resonance of beauty and ominous loss.

I made this photograph when the New Zealand Pike River coal mine disaster was large in the news and large in my thoughts. I think of the 29 that died there everytime I look at it. Photographs can be life's punctuation marks that recall and remind.
