A beast of a camera to carry at around 8.5kg, it would be suitable for someone working from their car or even studio use.

The camera is a Horseman 8x10 L series (the most basic model I believe). Both the front/rear rise and shift are geared, the swing and tilt movements on both standards are friction controlled. Geared focusing on both standards. The movements are very smooth and in terms of stability it is rock solid.

Overall the camera is very clean although the bellows does show some wear as would be expected from a well used camera but they are perfectly light-tight.

It takes Sinar or Horseman 140mm lens boards and Toyo accessories at the back. It comes with a reducing back to fit a Horseman 4x5 ground glass/film holder (I've never used this) which actually appears to be a rebranded Toyo reducing back. Includes original ground glass protector.

I'd like $1,100 ono. The camera is in Melbourne and local pick up would be preferable given the weight and size but I would be happy to send it interstate if anyone was happy to organise a courier.

I assume that this camera has an extendable base rail. What is the maximum length?

From the photos, it looks like the std rail.

The extension rail that I had had a split in the middle of the rail.

Great camera, though. Perfect for big 'ol brassies with a Sinar shutter mounted behind the front standard.

Lachlan is correct, it is the standard rail which is 400mm.

I did the basic fitness course of circuit training with a Sinar 10x8 P2 so I guess I might be approaching match fitness to lug a Horseperson L.

Anyhow, I hope you sell the camera, Mark. I'd really like to get back into 8x10, particularly now that I have a darkroom and am able to revisit some of my old 8x10 negs. There's nothing like the big format... except perhaps an even bigger one.

Any 8x10 camera I could lug around at the age of 73 would have to be a lot lighter than the Horseman. Being an avid diy-er I have a few ideas for a home made one, but in the future.

Thanks Barry. PC nomenclature aside it is a great camera to use but I'm starting carrying an 8x10 into the hills from time to time and the Horseman/person is just a wee bit heavy for that!
