Berlebach Report 2042 tripod - new

Postby Barry Kirsten » 01 Jul 2018, 15:00

I bought this brand new a few years ago with the idea of getting back into 8x10. It never happened and at 75 I don't think it ever will! Apart from putting my 4x5 on it to check it out, I've never actually used the tripod. It's brand new in every way and has remained in it's bag ever since. It's identical with the current model 242 (Berlebach informs me), described here: https://www.berlebach.de/?bereich=detai ... e=english#

The tripod has a built-in leveling ball which allows 30 degree tilt in all directions, and it was my intention to try this arrangement for landscape use before committing to a ball or pan/tilt head

Included with the basic tripod with standard 50cm centre column is a shorter 10cm column which allows use of tripod close to ground level, a Quick-release Coupling 150, a Quick-change plate 050/57, and carry bag.

AT today's exchange rate this outfit works out at AU$780. I'm happy to let it go for AU$500, and open to sensible offers. Postage would depend on where you live, but local pickup would of course be preferable.

Yes it is. Beautifully made and not all that heavy. I don't know how it compares with a comparable metal tripod, but it's certainly manageable. As it happens, I've been going through my old 8x10 negs recently with the view to reprinting some of them, and have been grabbed by the wonder of the format. I might hang on to the tripod and yet get into 8x10 again. There's nothing to compare with the gg image and handling an 8x10 neg.

Wonderful! Post a couple of shots with a camera mounted.

I have s couple of CF Gitzos; nowhere near the same character. How do the wooden tripods compare?

G'day Walter, was going to email you before Christmas. Things going well, am happy to say. Photographically, not enough hours in the day... but you understand that. Oddly, just two days ago, after two years of faultless operation, the gremlins showed up in the Ilford multigrade enlarger!!! Problem seems to be in the controller which does a crazy constant repeating countdown with beeping, only stoppable by turning off power. I'll probably take the controller to a mate who has one in Geelong tomorrow and swap it into his unit as a test. But it's great also having the L1200 condenser as a backup. Hope all is well with you and you're enjoying the new Toyo. All the best for Christmas.
