The 8x10 is ready to see duty .....

Yesterday I took the 8x10 back that came with the conversion kit I purchased up to my mate's and had it checked on the Sinar jig that measures alignment. It is amazingly true. A few weeks earlier I had taken the 4x5 components and they were also well within acceptable tolerance.

I also picked up the new Apo-Sironar-S 360mm 1:6.8 so I am all set to get to work.

I am just stuck for a motif. Every way I look at it I can't really make the change on the motif that I have been working on for a couple of years. I had done a test a few weeks ago on 4x5 with a slight variation of my ongoing approach but it didn't excite ... to say the least.

At present the idea is that the 8x10 will stay in the studio and the Technika will come out to play in the big wide world.

We'll see.

Shame the weather was such crap at the weekend or I could have been precessing some film this morning.

Any photos of the camera? You know how we like to see these things! I'm crossing my fingers for a dry and bright weekend coming. I've been training for the Oxfam Trailwalker and most of my weekends have been taken up doing that so haven't had a great deal of opportunity to get out with the camera. This weekend I plan to get my 8x10 out of the house.

Not normally one to indulge in camera porn, but since a few of you ask:

Rodenstock Apo-Sironar—S 360mm 1:6.8 — standard lens .... ideal for pictures of people which is what all this is about.

Very smart. What are those lights in the background? Fluorescent tubes or something else?

Hi Welly,

They are fluoros which I use to do this sort of thing:

Thanks Welly.

Truth is, I am not sure that I will actually shoot anything with this camera — tempting as it is.

Initially I bought the conversion kit to make the 4x5 Sinar more saleable on Ebay - it had had a couple of stints on auction and received no bids. Likewise, the lens affords a profit making opportunity.

Nothing is set in stone, and it may well change. Seeing the image that big on the ground-glass has a seductive quality to it.
