I've just got a Grafmatic!

Postby Alastair Moore » 17 Apr 2013, 12:58

I saw one of these for the first time at the Large Format Group weekend in Beechworth a while back and have been on the lookout for one since. There was one on eBay the other day for a deal and so grabbed it. It arrived today - for a 30-40 year old piece of equipment it's in great shape! But more than that, this is going to make daily shoots far more compact. I wish I'd got one before! It's brilliant!

I have had many of these over time Alastair,

They can be very good. ..... BUT!

The light traps are made of felt which makes loads of dust. Best to use a vacuum cleaner to suck it all out each time you load. There is a lot of mechanical clunking that goes on in there and this shakes the dust about.

Also ensure that the septum are flat.

I think that I might still have one for spare parts.

Thanks for the tips Walter! This one looks really clean, surprisingly so and the septums are very flat. I think I got a good one.

Bung one on that new P&S 4x5 and you could have a great day out!

Please keep us updated on how it goes.

Does anyone have any tips on removing the number wheel that implants itself on my exposed sheets?

Cheers Shane. After a bit of brief fear when I first had a look at the PDF, I tackled it and it was easier than I thought. All sorted now, my negs will be number free!
