Jobo? Tray?

Postby Ray Heath » 23 Dec 2012, 22:09

G'day all

I've read a few posts that seem to imply that many of you use Jobo processors.

What is the attraction?

How are they better than using a tray?

I was using tray and scratching all my negs.

Not any more.
You also need about a litre in a tray but 100ml per 10x8 in jobo.

Most people seem to add a bit more for good luck.

By consensus it's consistent as water is heated and conditions are repeatable

It takes up less space

It's bloody good to be able to spend 3 minutes loading film in dark,
And then turn on light for rest of process

You can leave it oscillating (get the massive dev app ) and go about socialising and have the alarms let you know when to change each chemical.

I think that's it for me

Oh and with a pro set up you can do 5 x 108 at a time

Didn't scratch any negatives using trays, but I would use a slosher in my trays. Usually got good results. Just bought a set of BTZS tubes. Getting great negatives and I can do most of it with the lights turned on. Certainly not abandoning trays - have to do 8x10 in them but liking the tubes a lot.

Just find it convenient, I use a unicolour print tank and roller base that takes 4 4x5 sheet, just load once in the dark and everything else with the lights on. No trays to wash either. I have two of these and a patterson one works just as well. FYI not real good for that xray film as the back gets marked, going to try trays for that. I use a bit more than a 100ml though, proberly 300 ml using rodinal at 1:50 to get 6ml of concentrate into the mix.
