Back by popular demand, Large Format Day at UNSENSORED13.

Join us from 1pm on Sunday 10 November for our second annual celebration of Large Format photography as part of the Melbourne Silver Mine Inc. exhibition UNSENSORED13.

Bring along your Large Format camera to Collingwood Gallery and join other like-minded LF enthusiasts, or drop in and marvel at these amazing cameras and meet the people who wield them.

The gallery is open from 10am - 6pm on weekends so feel free to drop in at any time, everyone is welcome.

...this is also a great opportunity to squiz at other folks' gear - I remember when I was pondering whether to order a shiny new Wista some years ago, it was a GREAT help when Shane generously brought his into the city for me to see. So if you're in Melbourne that weekend, with LF gear or not, come and say hello!

About the same number of visitors as last year, but different people! James & me both brought our cherry Wista 5x4"s (and a Graphic View, and the 5x4" version of your B&J, Shane, and a Harman Titan - and another guy had a Sinar monorail with bag bellows), and chatted at length over a couple of hours to folks. There was a bit of interest in the old Wista amongst the locals - the sheer number of them in this town seems statistically improbable already, and who knows, we may have converted a couple of MF users... ;)

I know I talked (or wished out aloud for myself) James into getting a 300mm f/9 lens for his Wista, which I believe he's already done today. When you get an idea in your head...

gee, limited bellows for a 300mm unless everything is at infinity. But not having used one what do I know. :)

I use my 300mm f/5.6 lens all the time on the Wista - I have it on a 10mm 'top hat' board, and it's certainly a challenge to get a sharp snap on a windy day, but surprisingly it will focus from about 8 metres to infinity. It just looks a bit silly (copal 3 shutter, and all that)!

Here's a snap of the thing in action, photographing the Brisbane skyline:

and the subsequent result:

not so useless, hey!
