Old Weybe Bridge

Image
Old Weyba Bridge
Gelatin-silver photograph on Arista EDU Ultra VC FB photographic paper, image size 24.5cm X 19.5cm, from a 8X10 Fomapan 100 negative exposed in a Tachihara 810HD triple extension field view camera fitted with a Fujinon_w 300mm f5.6 lens.

This hump-back bridge used to support the only road access to Noosa Heads and it was a scary thing to drive: loose planks and loose bolts that would work their way up and turn into tyre shredding spikes. I would walk it first before putting the car across. Now it has been cut narrow, re-decked, and pedestrians only. No load limits.

Adaptive re-use is always a way around obsolescence — but adaptive re-use as a photo motif adds another dimension completely. Look at this I can hear that distinctive rattle, clank and thud of rubber pneumatics on a loose wooden bridge.
