Re: Another Cider Gum Dag

Thanks again Maris. You know, venturing into wet plate I got sucked in to the “big format” thing, and the largest I dabbled was 12x20. When it comes to daguerreotypes, the smaller formats really hold just as much weight as the big ones. I was shown an 11x14 daguerreotype which I held in my hand and ...

Re: Snow Gum View, #9.

Back here again for my bi-yearly fix. These are all so good. This is what photography was made for. Fantastic work. How many of all of these do you have Maris?

Re: Snow Gum, number 031.

Going through all these again today Maris. Do you use the zone system for these snow gums? If so, how do you meter the trees?

FS: Big manfrotto tripods

I have for sale a couple of Manfrotto tripods. Big ones. Manfrotto 161 mk2b (right) will hold just about any camera you can put on it. This tripod extends to a whopping 267cm working height with the legs and centre column fully extended. And very sturdy at that height too. Pretty good nick, a few mi...

Lovely image as usual Maris, is this from a recent trip?

All the best with your surgeries, hopefully they don’t hold you up for long.

Another Cider Gum Dag

https://i.imgur.com/0BCilsv.jpeg Quarter plate daguerreotype, gilded This plate demonstrates that gorgeous prismatic iridescence where the tone of the tree shifts from rose to silver to gold as it's turned in the light. This plate was polished, sensitised and developed with mercury all on the side ...

Re: New Work

Funny you say that Maris, and I appreciate you picked up on it. Definitely the time and effort that goes into preparing a daguerreotype plate makes you think long and hard about where it'll end up. I the expense and difficulty of the process certainly warrants a worthy subject, something most would ...

Re: New Work

Thanks Maris. These are mercurial daguerreotypes. Had a very good teacher, did a workshop with Craig Tuffin back in September. Also Bianca Conwell from Vic and a couple of fellas in the US & Canada have been very helpful with advice. The dag community is very small with so few practitioners but ...
