Re: Sunflower, Soft Focus.

Thanks for your insights Mick . The soft focus lens was a concavo-convex element robbed out of a failed zoom lens. It was attached to the back of a #1 shutter with Blu-Tac. The concave side faced forward hence it matched the Wollaston configuration. Soft focus can come from both chromatic aberration...

Re: Renovations

Mick , what a nice architectural shot. The raking light makes an entertaining shadow-play among the eaves and posts. And the sky festooned with power lines adds a contemporary touch. The ladders really enhance the picture. I think back to William Henry Fox Talbot's use of the same ladder in his Apr...

Re: Side Paddock Portrait

Superb portrait Mick . Light skimming across face, subject in chair so no focus problem, pale background gets out of the way so that the subject dominates the frame, and the 250mm f6.3 lens is used to best advantage. I worried about the two trees emerging from the beret but the magnified view shows ...

Re: Lake Jindabyne, Drowned Poplars.

Thanks Barry Kirsten for your insights on this picture. I first knew these poplar trees when they were in magnificent full leaf. It was sad to see them killed by the imperatives of hydraulic engineering. Lake Jindabyne is the first reservoir to capture the snow-melt delivered by the Thredbo and Snow...

Re: Crossover Hallway

Wow, talk about converging lines and one point perspective! Mick , you have made a brilliant example of the so called "wide angle stretch" while still maintaining rectilinear correctness. That centre-dark filter works a treat in keeping the hallway full of light rather than letting it rend...

Re: Nude with Hat

Thanks Mick for your observations. The hat tricked me up. A person wearing a hat and standing on sunlit ground has some light kicked up towards their face that photographically usable. Not so in the shade of a tree. The hat had to come off to get more light on the model's face and she still came out m...
