Re: Tree and Moon, Isla Gorge

Thank you Barry Kirsten and Mick Fagan for your very kind comments. I'm a sucker for moon-in-sky pictures and of course I blame Ansel Adams and his Moon Rise, Hernandez, New Mexico of 1941. I saw a reproduction of this picture in 1959 at the Toowoomba library and my eyes nearly fell out. The price o...

Re: Selfie with Noosa tee shirt

Barry , that is a fine shirt with a nostalgic dimension to it. In years past Kombi vans were everywhere when the surf was up. Board riders would drive in from all over and sleep in them at the National Park. This to hit the waves at first light and get lots of good rides before the lazy locals arri...

Re: Down Ramping

Thanks Mick for the Google Maps link. It gets me to a spot very close to your actual camera position. The question for me is by what convolution of eye and mind caused you to set up there and produce an evocative and idiosyncratic Down Ramping.
Can't be luck, you've been at the game too long!

Re: Down Ramping

If this was a painting it would have been done by that famous Australian artist Jeffrey Smart noted for his implicitly surreal urban landscapes. Mick , your photograph raises question. See the white Beemer slightly blurred as it accelerates under the shadow of the big black portal. What's the portal...

Re: Whroo Reservoir

An entertaining balance of opposites, Mick . Starting with the bright far-ground contrasting with the shaded foreground. Then a distant band of rippled water adjoining a nearby plane of mirror water. Look at the sedges on the right, white stems against a dark background, and then observe the sedges ...

Re: Black Stone in Beach Sand

Thanks Mick for your kind comments. The stone and sand were in the wave zone and my tripod got wet feet; not timid me though. Your Japanese flag comments reminded me that there are actually two Japanese flags. The civilian version, a red disc on a white field, is not controversial like the Rising Su...

Re: Aloe Vera

Simple, subtle, perfect! The vertical subject and the soft vertical pattern in the background resonate nicely together. In the big big versions of this picture the fine strands of webbing become visible and lend a reassuringly organic touch to this piece of natural sculpture. Mick , consider taking ...
