Re: Observatory Tower Indoor Wet-Edge Pool

Perfect geometry with enough asymmetry to keep things visually entertaining. That semi-circular hand rail on the right is very chic. And the glimpses of the outside world through the windows must have involved some subtle exposure decisions. In the past when the company paid I'd stay in some fancy h...

Re: Is The Schneider Super Angulon XL 47mm 1:5.6 Any Good?

Wow, but Walter you deserve some sympathy about using a SSA 47mm-XL. The darn thing has a 120 degree image angle which means 90% of the picture area is periphery. At least that happens to me when I try to shoot ultra-wide. Can't shoot landscape with the sun on your back; photographer's shadow in eve...

Re: QANTAS Group Finance Flying Carpet

Well composed Walter ; perfect, as usual. Mick you are not wrong about the ceiling semicircle - it "makes" the room. I've photographed some unremarkable interiors and the problem of the blank ceilings talking up half the picture never away until someone told me to screw my Linhof Master Te...

Re: Twisted Nude

Thank you Walter for your insights and experiences. I reckon a celebration of the nude that will never run dry is a celebration of real beauty for its own sake. I think of "What a piece of work is man... Hamlet, Act 2, scene II" and assert that if we cannot admire our common humanity at it...

Re: Below cotter dam

John Power , that's a really well balanced composition with big trees holding up the right and left sides, dramatic diagonal branches in the middle, and water flow from far to near to unify things. Walter Glover's suggestion of "foot zoom" uncovers a powerful technique that may not occur ...

Re: Composition in Iron, Panel, Shadow

If you think Iron, Panel, Shadow is a wildly asymmetrical, quirky, indulgent arrangement of forms take a look at John Power's Small Stumps of 26 Sept 2021. It's even more asymmetrical and wilder. And it offers more strange shapes to look at.

Re: Cork oaks morning

An excellent example of photography made difficult. Everything is biassed against success: shadowed black and grey tree trunks, intense backlighting, and the sun itself in the picture. But it works! Is your Fuji wide angle lens the one with the EBC coating and the notable flare resistance? Maybe the...

Re: Republican Morning Light, Bondi Beach

That's nice oblique light bringing out the fake shingles on the bays and pelmets. It must have been a popular architectural trope a hundred years ago because the building next door bears those shingles as well.
Republican? Too subtle for me even though the clue must be in plain sight.

Re: A bit of cush

Perfect visual pizza! Good work in keeping the tripod legs out of the picture without letting the centre of gravity of the system stray too far from middle. If you find pointing the camera straight down is tricky think of the day you will want to point it straight up.
