Re: Enlarger lamp

I run an Omega D2V enlarger with a 75 watt Photocresenta bulb and the brightness is ample to enlarge a 4x5 neg up to 16x20. But a dense negative does mean exposures more than a minute so I try to avoid those overexposed/overdeveloped mistakes. Importantly the Omaga D condenser head is rated for a 75...

Re: Ruffling of feathers!

I promise not to post after a long darkroom session and the couple of Scotches that come as a reward at the end of it. But, yea verily, forebearance is tested by some of what passes here.

Re: Temp control

Now that winter is setting in, how are you keeping you printing trays warm. I though about water baths but even that cools down quickly here in Melbourne. Or do you just warm the room up to 20 deg for a while before going into a print session just to bring everything up to temperature. Warm the roo...

Re: WTB: 8x10 field/folding camera

Looking through the corners of the ground-glass at the exit pupil of the lens is the truly correct way of checking for vignetting but there is a quick 'n easy alternative. Look through the lens at the ground-glass. If you can see its corners then your subject matter can see them too and image cut-of...

Re: WTB: 8x10 field/folding camera

Maris will be happy. It's a piece of dead people's furniture! But I didn't want to spend more than I did on it so a Toyo 810 wasn't an option. It'll suit me fine for my 8x10 needs! Yes, Tachiharas are nice cameras. The model Alastair has looks like a 810GF double extension model with up to 550mm of...

Re: Off center lens board

I make and use extreme off-centre lens boards for wide angle lenses on my Tachihara 45GF field view camera. This camera has no provision for bag bellows so lens shifts are restricted when the standard bellows are tightly compressed behind a wide angle lens such as a Nikkor-SW 65mm f4. By making the ...

Re: Moonrise, Lake Weyba

I've been known to carry a big golf umbrella as a windbreak for in-the-field flower shots. A well made umbrella can resist a lot of wind pressure and it comes in handy if the weather turns rainy. There is another technique ascribed to the famous Paul Strand who was doing time exposures in a forest. ...
