Re: Lens board for Busch Pressman D

If I can offer a couple of thoughts... I couldn't find the right thickness of aluminium once for a Linhof board I was making, so used a slightly thinner piece and ran a line of black electrical tape around the edge, mitred at the corners. It provided the right thickness and was light tight. Maybe ea...

Re: Temperature for print developing

Me either Shane, just saying what I've learned over the years. To be fair to Ansel, his attention to detail was partly dictated by the need to repeatedly make fine prints for sale; so taking care to control everything and record his printing workflow made this goal easier to achieve.

Re: Temperature for print developing

It depends on how critical you are about the quality of your prints. If you want to preserve delicate details, particularly in the shadow areas, time and temperature are very important (as is developer concentration, paper grade or filtration used). Although you can get reasonable prints by a basic ...

Re: Lens board for Busch Pressman D

No Ranjit, I travel to Melbourne as little as possible ! You would have to come to me, and bring a few small samples of aluminium sheet that we could work with - offcuts from an aluminium supplier would do - then we could go to work. I am strictly a DIY type and I make do with what I have. I don't k...

Re: Lens board for Busch Pressman D

Hi rex, welcome to the forum. Before you go the way of having boards made, I'd suggest the Large Format Photography forum in the US, a group large enough that you might find used boards there. You have to be a member for one month before you can advertise in the classifieds, or alternatively I could...

Re: X Ray Film

I've always understood that panchromatic film was more expensive because its chemistry is more complex, requiring special dyes to extend sensitivity into the red wavelengths. I think you're right about marketing factors. When you consider for example how much xray film is used compared to panchromat...

Re: X Ray Film

Hi Shane, Yes, I've actually looked at the Freestyle reference. Good on price, but I haven't seen any work done with this film. Would be interesting to see how it compares with other films.

Re: X Ray Film

Thanks Lachlan and Shane. Carestream don't seem to have 8x10 sheets, the nearest I can find is 18x24 cm, but I haven't contacted them yet. The answer seems to be myus! I was vaguely aware that such organisations exist, but didn't know anything about them. Now I come to think of it, the guy at ZZ Med...
