Re: Maitland Showground

Another superb composition. I envy your talent in seeing photographs in places I walk past, step over, or step into on the way to somewhere else. And you are not afraid of big skies. Personally I fear the capacity of large format film to eat dust before and after exposure!

Re: Gumtree & Farm, Near Rosewood.

I got a piece of white mount board and tried cropping this picture on my monitor maybe a dozen different ways. Nope, I couldn't make it any better. It's not often so many forms are choreographed so elegantly in one picture. Even a sky full of fluffy white clouds wouldn't improve things.

Re: Printing paper otions

I've just received 400 sheets of 8x10 Ultrafine Silver Eagle VC FB paper at a landed cost, everything included, of 81 cents a sheet. That's a good price for a neutral emulsion on a white fibre base that works fine in ordinary chemistry, responds to contrast filters -1 to 5+, and is characterless eno...

Re: Is this a blemish or not?

Yes that is a blemish It's a failure in the interlens cement causing a lens element separation at that point. The separation may stay small or it might grow (over years or decades) causing the lens elements to separate completely. Only time will tell. While the separation is small it's virtually imp...

Re: Another Novocastrian Visitor

... I had difficulty with tonal separation. The sky and the painted masonry merged .... even to the naked eye. A Polariser ended up being the solution. Years ago when I sat in a gallery director's chair (unearned privilege) and had people bring me black and white portfolios for assessment I used to...

Re: Another Novocastrian Visitor

What perfect cool cerebral compositions! Geez, you must have a lot of luck or a lot of persistence and discipline. The latter I think. Picture one illustrates a quirk of perception; for me at least. That breaking wave at the extreme left is obscured by the round top building, then it reappears again...
