Re: George Tice — a full movie

It's a movie worth watching but put aside the time and some preconceptions. Frankly it rambles too much, the pace is too leisurely, and it doesn't have a strong narrative thread. I'm told George Tice works like that now he is free of the frantic family portrait business that fed him for years. Point...

Re: Tintagel Slate Fortifications

I can't refrain from asking. At Tintagel is the Arthurian connection proved, possible, implausible, or impossible? What do the locals say? The castle and surrounds are so evocative one wants to muse on the chance that Merlin walked those paths.

Re: A Nice Weekend With A Ground Glass

["Walter Glover"] ...I like the impact of harsh light — outdoors and in the studio... Yes, me too. But the added complexity of the two overlaid patterns, the native shape and tone of the subject plus the light and shade overlay, makes success more elusive but richer when gained. ...I'd be...

Re: A Nice Weekend With A Ground Glass

Nice tower! Bernd and Hilla Becher would have trophied this one eventually but they'd have had to wait for some drab German style weather. And they would need their students fron the Dusseldorf School to sneak over one night and cut down the trees. Better the way it is I reckon. Very witty stripes. ...

Maris Rusis: Original Photographs

Years ago I said I'd never do another public exhibition. Exhibitions are a distraction from on-going creative work. They consume time and expensive resources and furnish but passing entertainment for mildly interested gallery goers. But there's an upside too in the cleansing discipline of putting to...

Re: House Wearing Veil

Infrared film can be obtained. The last 50 sheet boxes of 4x5 Efke IR820 are turning up on the 'Bay at a tad over $3 a sheet. It delivers a strong Wood effect behind a $20 IR720 filter from China (also via Ebay). But infrared film keeps badly and loses speed. My 8x10 IR820 film is down to an EI of 0...

Re: House Wearing Veil

Oh man, what a building. I'd be racing back to it too but with infrared film to make those green leaves really pop. Couldn't help myself.
