Re: Contact printing paper

A big Bunnings might be the answer.

Or a specialty lighting store.

Re: Contact printing paper

What use is a bayonet when only a screw will do! And isn't that all the time? LOL

Re: Contact printing paper

Alastair, I think a bracket arm off the wall with a lamp better hanging from it will allow you the ability to raise and lower the light source as an additional means of varying exposure. I'd try to keep as close to a point source as you can - clear globe rather than frosted and no reflector. 15 watt...

Re: Official. I'm in love with 8x10

Strand, Evans and Weston got it right in the simplicity stakes in my book.

Keep it simple and honest. THAT is what 8x10 is all about to me. Truth and the perfect description of the lens.

Re: Stu and Tori

Proud moment for you Alastair, I would not be scanning the image and enlarging it. A contact print from the darkroom makes for a far more memorable gift, to say nothing of a far better image. Have you got 8x10 sleeves for the negs? With 8x10 (even 4x5 for that matter) you can't rely on f-stops to ge...

Re: Official. I'm in love with 8x10

8x10 is where it lives for me Alastair. You can still take in the entire composition under a horse blanket with your arms still reaching controls. In time you will encounter some of the limitations such as depth of field and shutter speed with a bellows the size of a spinnaker. It is a lovely thing,...

Re: Enlarger lamp

I suspect that an LED may not work with the optical system of a condensor enlarger.

Re: Scanning 4x5 Negatives

My initial response was aimed at a cheap and adequate home scanning solution. Of course, there is much better available. What does not seem to have got a mention is the fact that for high end scanning it is usual to mount the neg or tranny in oil to minimise aberrations such as scratches and dust an...

Re: Rekindling old passion

It's a good walk around camera Walter. Don't I know it, and mighty handy in the studio also. I may have been apportioning the blame somewhat incorrectly. The neg carrier for the Epson scanner might actually be the culprit. I just finished processing the last 12 of 36 sheets of TMY that I shot of a ...

Re: Polaroid Fuji holders nightmare

Polaroid proofing was de roger back in the era of commercial film shooting. Even the framing of traditional Polaroid holders was different to the actual film exposure so there was always a need to "make allowance".
