Re: Pioneer Village

A subtle composition, I think? The caption says "big land" but the picture says "big sky". I guess you can't have one without the other.

Re: The Other End of the Box Car

Man, that's so ugly it's beautiful; the ultimate in utilitarian design. Imagine what the same designer could if let loose on water towers, mine poppet heads, and blast furnaces: industrial chic indeed.

Re: Super Expensive Photos

Yes! A very interesting video. I'd suggest those ancient photographs are valuable because they encapsulate rarity, singularity, fully realized handcraft, fine and valuable materials, archival durability, coherent scholarship, and interesting content. But, to carry the argument further, I further pro...

Re: I wonder if I am toning down a tad today??

Forgive the presumption but I'll still vote for your original vision. I reckon you hit the optimum balance between (light + air) versus (shadow + substance) first up. Then I have to confess I do much the same thing but more from self-doubt rather than the pursuit of artistic excellence. Once I think...

Re: I wonder if I am toning down a tad today??

Toning down? Nah! "Early Light" and the "Listening House" both show an orderly progression of tones from very light to very dark. I reckon human perception is adapted to read these as a full scale scenes with no jolting anomalies. They look real nice too. It's an interesting expe...

Magic productivity, Walter. Five Circles , Avoiding Holiday Patriots , Streetscapes: Real and Unreal , A Day Out With Mates , and Gourds Behind Bars has got to be the hottest patch of picture posting on LFPA for ages. Cold Store As Convenience Store is a perfect example of optimum timing. Five minut...

Re: Gourds Behind Bars

Sigh! I fear those gourds will never be free even when they've finished drying out. Up here in QLD they'd become hard working maracas or, er, hard working bongs.

Re: Ambushed by Conifers

I'm thinking that the conifers enfolding the church-like building are not a coincidence. There is a deep tradition going back to pagan and Roman times to plant yew trees or cypresses next to temples particularly those associated with funerary rites. The dark shade associated with groves of these tre...

Re: Split Rock

Yes, an evocative scene with appealing connotations; and a mystery. Maybe the eucalypt seed found a sheltered and moist spot in a pre-existing crack in the rock and has taken advantage of it. Maybe it really did muscle its way into the light. There's plenty of examples up here in the sub-tropics of ...
