I don't have any advice here, Mick, but wanted to say that it sounds a fun and worthwhile project.... the one moment of the year that sun hits the south facing wall of a building! Very cool, and it should be celebrated!

I had looked at these when choosing a shorter lens and ended up with the Fuji SW 90 in part because I wanted to avoid centre gradient filters and had read that mostly it didnt need one... I might see if I can run some analysis on images to see what sort of fall off is evident without.
Yeah, right! I never used acros, but acros ii is expensive and (for me) only decent. I like 160ns in 120 though, especially for portraits, its a nice alternative to portra 160.
I will probably get some e6 and velvia 4x5. I'd hate to day that I missed out on ever shooting an LF landscape on velvia!

Thanks Mick! I'd not heard or thought of the Gestalt effect as it relates to photography, but of course it has a strong presence... interesting stuff! I'm keen to read more about these sorts of compositional impacts, even if I don't think of them explicitly while out shooting, I think it percolates ...
