Re: Elephant Palm

Bazz, 200 prints, the mind boggles; must have been unsettling if exposures were all over the place. Until I sold my business 4½ years ago, I had a couple of Stouffer step wedges, one in ½ stops, the other in 1/3 stops. I used to read them with my Gossen Profi-six meter using the fibre optic extensio...

Re: Elephant Palm

Are either or both of you developing by inspection in trays? I don't, Mick. The main reason is that with my eyes and the safelight I use, I don't seem to be able to reliably see subtle changes in density. Probably age-related, but that's life . As to the safelight, I made my own consisting of a doz...

Re: Elephant Palm

I use a BTZS file which after testing gives me a development time around 4-6 minutes, because of contrast I have been hesatent to rock the trays too much initially 15sec per minute. This neg is constantly rocking the tray side to side and them lengthways. I do not get to much scratching although I c...

Re: 150mm versus 250mm on 4x5"

Barry, I'm warming to doing a print of the 250, so I tend to agree with you. Lachlan, I struggled to get it all in with the 150, using a 180 would have cut off stuff on the right, like with the 250, but wouldn't have gotten in as close as the 250 to give more emphasis to the rock pool; interesting p...

Re: Elephant Palm

Are either or both of you developing by inspection in trays? I ask as I have about 80 sheets of 30.5x45.7cm Ilford Newsdot film that I bought new around 25 years ago. I used this for making negatives for a photomechanical process I did when manufacturing rubber stamps. I haven't yet ever had the urg...

150mm versus 250mm on 4x5"

Last year I picked up a 250mm lens, a Fujinon W f/5.6 250mm to be precise. It was picked up to replace a Linfof Schneider Kreuznach Tele-Arton 250mm f/5.6 lens. There is nothing wrong with the Schneider lens, I just wished to have more coverage, so after looking for close to three years, I found the...

Re: Elephant Palm

Looks very good, shadow wise, when viewed correctly. The difference from correct viewing, as to what is shown, is more than I imagined it would be.

Re: Kilcunda Trestle Bridge

Thank you Maris. I did ponder the left hand pylon, in the end I left it out, which also left me with a bit more end of bridge space on the extreme right. I agree about using a 65mm on 4x5", it does require the correct subject, usually with correct framing; something that is a little hard to fin...

Re: Kilcunda Trestle Bridge

Thanks Barry. With regard to centre filters, I have, over the past 30 years or more, been sitting on the fence a bit. I run an 18mm Sigma lens on my Nikon bodies, it has approximately 1 stop fall off in general, and another ¼ of a stop very deep on all four corners. It is livable, but has been a bit...

Kilcunda Trestle Bridge

This picture has been a long time coming, about 40 years. I have never photographed this trestle bridge in a manner that I liked, until this time. I have tried with 35mm with various focal lengths, a 6x6 TLR with one focal length, then finally, this, with a 65mm super wide angle on 4x5”. For some re...
