I guess for me the other reason is cost. Being an old pensioner I don't have the funds for real film, xray allows me to play with 10x12 and even 13x16 in my Hunter Penrose without much expense.

I hear you Bazz! I have had a couple of packs of Ilford FP4 plus 125 secreted away for my trip to Canada, but I enjoy the challenge of xray, and the rewards of producing a scratchless negative that needs no post developing work is a great feeling.

Hmmm! The blotches do not seem uniform enough to blame them on your enlarger (hot spot), which would only lead to development issues. May I ask what size tray you develop in? and what agitation you use?

Thanks Bazz, yes I worked out the BTZS and pm'ed you. I always relied on the zone system and spot metering for those shots you can't get up close to take an exposure reading. I kind of solved the blotchy results with 4x5 dev by using the old stand tanks, they look a lot like hip flasks, my latest ta...
