Re: Deck View Kilcunda

I have to agree with RoganJosh about the composition. It evokes memories of Paul Strand's pictures at the Gaspé Peninsula; everything in a still and luminous equilibrium. But Mick , you have a "kicker". Look at that little wave half way up the left side that broke at exactly the right time...

Re: Deep Forest, number 3

Thanks Mick for your kind words. I got lucky with picture sharpness on this one. The deep forest is breeze-less so minimal leaf movement, Efke IR820 has less focus shift than good ol' Kodak HIE, and the wide lens at f22 swallows lots of focus ambiguity. The Efke IR820 I still have is 11X14 so it's a...

Re: Swamp Sedge, Alexandria Bay

Thanks Mick for your kind words. I got that 21cm Heliar lens for free from Eric Owen the camera repair guy. The compound shutter was bad and the repair quote was high so the original owner (fool?) abandoned it; much to my gain. I cleaned the shutter and it now runs with repeatable but ludicrously in...

Re: Mulga Posts, Sheep Mustering Yards

Thanks Mick . The shadows were the first thing to catch my eye. The second thing was the bright corrugated roof at the top of the scene that was pitched at precisely the glare angle from the afternoon sun. So ignoring the "never crop" rule the roof was eliminated at the printing stage. And...

Re: Lone Sentinal

Nice sentinal (sic) indeed. Nature presents as chaos but there is order in it. Look behind the sentinel. There is a frieze of six trees spaced about equally apart starting frame left and finishing frame right. That cadence elegantly supports the prominence of the big tree. Well seen and subtle, Mick .

Re: Yarrie Lake Billabong and Spoonbills

Nice surprise Mick . No, it's not the composition; that's perfect as usual. The spoonbills are nicely side-on so they look like birds rather than blobs. And the 250mm f6.3 lens delivers an impeccable image. It's the two little white birds lower left that counterpoint the arrangement of the spoonbill...
