Forum hosting change

I'm moving the hosting of this forum to a different service (but with the same provider) in the early hours of tomorrow (Sunday, 23rd September). Hopefully this goes smoothly in which case no-one should notice any change. But just in case something goes wrong and we end up temporarily off the air, a...

Re: Forum spammers

I hope to try a temporary fix later today, we'll see how that goes. The fundamental issue is that the installation of this forum software has long been very broken which makes it very difficult to properly upgrade. When I get time (hah!) I intend to set up an all-new system in parallel and then migr...

Forum spammers

Normally we get a slow but steady trickle of people joining the forum only to end up being spammers trying to sell stuff which is VERY unrelated to large format photography; I delete these posts and their accounts as soon as I can. But last night it seems to have become an avalanche, and there's no ...

Re: Howtek users in Australia

Hi Dean, welcome to the forum.

I don't do a lot of scanning myself, but when I do I use my cheap-and-cheerful flatbed Epson. However I'd be interested to learn more about the world of drum scanning, I hear that they can get very good results.

Forum status

I've just now returned from an overseas trip, and it looks like recently there's been some DNS issues which caused some issues for some people. For safety I temporarily disabled the forum while that was happening rather than risking users getting redirected to an unsavory third-party site. Sorry for...

Re: The Print is what matters

Thanks for sharing that story and photos.

Dry-mounting is one of those things I keep meaning to get around to. I'm not a fan of scanning & editing (I only do that for C41), wet printing is infinitely more satisfying. From what you say, I should dig out my dry-mount press and give that a try.

Spam on forum

Unfortunately there's been a few people joining up recently just to post spam. As soon as I see those posts I delete them and the user account, but sometimes they slip through. At least it shows that registration of new users is working nowadays, it was broken for a fair while until fixed recently :...

Re: Shutter Repair in Sydney?

I was under the impression that ECS has (sadly) ceased trading.

Re: Any Others Experience DownTime?

As you can tell, we're now back on the air. My apologies for the outage! The problem is/was that Alastair still owns the domain name which points to this newly-hosted system. That domain name expired a couple of days ago causing the outage that you noticed. He's since renewed the domain so we're bac...

Sounds like a great plan, I think I need to organise something similar when I next have visitors here.
