Re: Exposure metering

Paul,

you might find it is fairly commonplace for folk on forums to answer the question asked - particularly to a newbie - and not to broaden the topic.

If you have a spreadsheet app on your iPhone I can send you a sheet that calculates it.

Re: Scanner of choice?

Re-awakening this old thread: I am investigating the adjustable BetterLight film holders for my Epson 4990. Does anybody have any experience with these? For the 4990 would I require the minimum height 0.5mm version or is the 1mm version okay?

Re: Rekindling old passion

What a difference a week makes ...... The film was processed and the results scrutinised. The motif which I have pursued for a few years now makes the choice for the future patently clear. The medium format just fails to cut the mustard. No comparison. Shot another frail maiden this morning and only...

Re: Scanning 4x5 Negatives

As an afterthought, though, I should point out that the Espon is great with LF scans. The smaller the format you scan the less impressive is the quality of image. Hopeless for 35mm and passable for 120.

Re: Scanning 4x5 Negatives

Paul, I use an Epson 4990 which works well enough I think. I scan 4x5s at 1200 dpi which gives an image big enough for my needs, but I could scan at 4800 dpi without the scanner interpolating. The holders seem convenient enough although I am considering some adjustable holders which might hold the f...

Re: Contact printing paper

Alastair, It should be fine, I believe. Kodak used to produce a special contact printing paper - "Azo" - but it was discontinued some years back. There were supplies available from Smith and Shamlee in the US a while back. Azo was a very light weight paper base which tended to curl incredi...

Re: Ruffling of feathers!

Argument, as discussion in a legalistic sense, is indeed a commendable activity which has merit that can benefit the assembled multitude. But it has been my experience over many years on internet fora that all too often such discussion gets devalued by: 1 Playing the man and not the topic, 2 Navel g...
