Small stumps

The other shot from yesterday. I had one leg of the tripod fully in the river, the other two almost at ground level... it was very precarious and I was glad to get away with all the kit intact and dry! This was a 1sec exposure, so not super silky water, but (I think) nice texture and a bit of moveme...

Large pile of river sticks

Great morning out yesterday, a mate who is new to photography wanted to see what he could do with his camera. He has a good eye for composition and hopefully he will come out again. I mucked around with a couple of sheets too, both were ok! Continuing with Ilford Ortho plus film, I like it! But am n...

Re: Cork oaks morning

Maris, thanks for that, I feel better about the image knowing that I was up against it a bit :) My fuji is not an EBC version, and I'm yet to take delivery of a filter (I usually use cheap Hoya UV filters as "always on" filters) for this lens, so this is purely its performance against flar...

Cork oaks morning

The harvested lower trunks of these trees really do bring to mind an army. Not sure how smart it was to shoot directly into the sun here... I guess a darkslide could get a bit warm/holey melty? In other news, this is the first load of 4x5 ilford ortho that I've shot. I like it, though I've also swit...

Re: Success in the darkroom

Thanks Barry! Great to hear your thoughts on this, and happy that they are in the same directions that i was thinking, too. I have an old pressed steel shelving that I think I could use with magnet strips and this will probably be my first port of call. I'm taking some time to think about how to mar...

Success in the darkroom

Apologies for the non-LF content here, but thought I'd check in on progress with printing. In the past month I've picked up a grain focuser (massive game changer) and yesterday took delivery of some 11x14 trays and paper. I did some enlargements last night (only a 6x6 negative tray) and it was the f...

Re: Which?

is one of these a film and one a print? The first retains nicer detail in the brick, but I think if I was hanging something on the wall to draw people in the second might grab more attention.
I really like them both, though :)
Apologies if this was not the sort of response you were looking for!

I saw this on your Flickr, Walter, and enjoyed it even more as a full screen experience.
Very nicely done.

Re: Wattles on Mt Ainslie

These are classic near-far compositions with the close in blossoms showing individual wattle flowers and the far trees showing wattles en masse . A cute and fancy art word for this style is repoussoir where an off-centre foreground object directs the viewers gaze into things more distant. Thanks Ma...

Re: En-deadened acacia

Thanks for the feedback, Walter, as always :) I'm almost always feeling a bit of time pressure when taking photos, thinking that I really need to be home in x mins to help with kid rearing (or just as often, having kids with me and needing to keep moving because they're getting bored with a spot!). ...
