Re: Kangaroo Island

Amazing result! Fuji HRT Green is a high contrast film and the fire damaged tree is a high contrast subject against a hard blue sky. But all the tones stay remarkably coherent. Surely you must have been running Foma Speed 311 at its lowest contrast. I'd love to know how you did it; details, details.

Re: Are you a 4x5 or 5x4 guy?

If it's confusion you want try this: My last Ilford catalogue lists 4"x5" film. My last Kodak catalogue lists 10.2cm x 12.7cm film and is resolutely metric throughout with no mention of inch sizes. But the actual film is neither of those sizes from both makers. I measure it to be 10.0cm X ...

Re: View of Mount Cooroy, Across the Noosa River

Yes, I was looking for a nearby rock to repeat the shape of the distant mountain but eventually settled for the loop in the trunk of the fallen tree; a compromise. Then I waited for a boat to anchor (?) the eyeline between foreground and horizon. The boat arrived but it was rather far away; another ...

Re: Sedge Field, Afternoon

Thanks RoganJosh for your insight. It's an old trick but an effective one: to lend an impression of luminosity to a photograph let the top highlights blow out to paper-base white. This conflicts with the conventional wisdom of having highlights on Zone VIII (tone and texture) or Zone IX ( tone but n...

Re: Edgeland--Canberra

What a striking dichotomy and pictorial tension in one picture! Crop off the bottom half and one has a scene of tranquil luminosity. Crop off the top half and one has darkened grunge.

Re: Minimum amount of developer?

A lot of complicated stuff happens when developer concentration changes. A more dilute developer has a lower ph (depends of buffer capacity of the formulation) and is therefore less active. The rate of diffusion of developer molecules into emulsion is faster at higher dilutions. But fewer developer ...
