Re: What is your film of choice?

Lately most of my large format negatives have been Fomapan 400 or Freestyle Arista EDU Ultra 400 which is the same thing. At A$2.75 landed cost for an 8x10 sheet I can't complain. As Good as it Gets.

Point Light Gallery in Surry Hills, Sydney is having an exhibition named "As Good as it Gets" until 20 April. The director Gordon Undy will have a Maris photograph or two on the walls. The space will be shared by a row of names and I suspect the Henri Cartier Bresson, Ansel Adams, and Paul...

Re: Composing

It's been a long long time since I noticed the groundglass image in the back of a view camera is upside down. Or should that be upside down AND back to front? In any case the "inversion" emphasises the formal structure of the image rather the emotional attachment to subject matter. Subsequ...

Re: Still shooting, a little.

Nice motifs, isolated trees in a paddock, very Australian. The yellow filter is surprisingly effective in taming those skies and bringing out the clouds. Blank skies used to be a paper negative tradition but your's look much better. I see your marginal notes are mirror-reversed. If you are going to ...

Re: Wood collection (and some thoughts on testing failure)

This is how I work when I have to use a new film or developer and I'm in a hurry for workable insights. First I find a "standard" front lit scene with some sky, clouds, some ground, grass and trees, dark shadows, white paint in sunlight, etc etc. The key thing is to have a wide range of su...
