Re: ND Grads

Hi Oscar, I've pondered at times trying ND grads but so far haven't got around to it. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your tests. I usually use contrast filters/polarizers, and printing controls, but admit there are often times when a ND grad would make life easier. Good on you for tryi...

Re: Nude in a Gale

Wonderful energy in this shot Maris, even without the lady 'hanging on for grim death'! I like it a lot. You must have had the tripod weighted down well.

Re: Orchard, New South Wales

What a striking image Maris. I imagine there would be many other satisfying interpretations of this negative, and it would be fun exploring them, but you certainly achieved a sense of drama here that many probably wouldn't 'see' when looking at the actual scene. Congratulations on a wonderful image.

Hi Walter,

Sorry to hear that. Doesn't sound very nice, indeed. I hope they've treated it successfully. Keep us posted.

Re: Success in the darkroom

Walter is too kind, I am just a dabbler who tries to do his best. I make many mistakes, but enjoy myself doing DIY. Walter's thoughts are worth pondering on if you might want variable margins. For routine proofing, or even fine printing, a simple one-size easel might do you. If I mount and frame a p...

Re: Success in the darkroom

Hi John, Congrats on a successful print, the first of many I trust. It seems we might be two of a kind when it comes to making something rather than buying a commercial one. I don't have a plan for a fixed size easel, although I've thought about it from time to time. I made myself a four blade 12x16...

Walter, what a bugger!!! I remember a couple of years ago when your van was broken into and a veritable ute-load of your LF gear stolen, nothing of which was ever recovered. I'm sure you'll hang in there, as nothing seems to phase you. But it's time you got a few breaks. Cheers.

Re: 18-mile Hole, Cann River

Thanks Mick and Walter. I love that thought, Walter - 'putting four lines around a slice of the world!' Yes, it's what we do, but I've NEVER thought of it like that. It strikes me as an interesting way of approaching visualisation. And oh, how I pine for the days when I could tote an 8x10 - and a mo...

18-mile Hole, Cann River

Inspired by Maris' Cataract, Mossman River recently, I dug this one out - a small fall and swimming hole on the Can River in East Gippsland. There's something very soothing to the soul, I think, in water and waterfalls, probably my favourite subjects to photograph. This one from 1986 was on 8x10 FP4...

Re: Valleys and Dam

Hehe, I think Adobe Lightroom was supposed to be a sort of digital light box for negative/tranny viewing/organising/slightly modifying and an alternative to Photoshop. I think it became very popular. For me, I hate anything to do with computers in image processing, but like many have come to realise...
