My Father's Youngest Brother

Postby Walter Glover » 24 Dec 2020, 07:23

Arthur Godwin Glover (1922-2008) lived in the latter part of his life near his son in Devonport, Tasmania and, in his 80s made a trip to see his other children in Sydney and what could I do but wave a sheet or two of film at him in the moment.

That's a good pose! Not tiring for the subject to hold as the Technika 2000 is focussed and tweaked; which takes maybe more than a few moments. When I'm co-opted in front of a loaded view camera I too prefer to recline and adopt a cheerful submission to the inevitable.

Thanks Maris,

There wasn't too much fiddling about for my uncle to endure. I used a technique crafted over the years shooting people (pollies and the like) who allocate you 5 or 10 minutes for a publicity portrait. I set up with a stand-in. This was a last pose for my own use (rather than my cousin's) and I wanted him as I remembered him, hence the relaxed recline. I refrained from making it too true to life by not putting a beer in his hand.
