Giacometti Walking Man Morning Rush, Darling Haarbour

Postby Walter Glover » 16 Oct 2021, 17:27

Giacometti is best known for the bronze sculpt[22ures of tall, thin human figures, made in the years 1945 to 1960. He was influenced by the impressions he took from the people hurrying in the big city. People in motion he saw as ‘a succession of moments of stillness’.

The emaciated figures are often interpreted as an expression of the existential fear, insignificance and loneliness of mankind.

Walter, a delightful splash of visual wit, and jolly clever to realise the possibility and be primed ready to capture the exact instant. And very bold too in exposing a large and expensive piece of colour film in the pursuit of a moment that could very well have escaped. The allusion to Giacometti's Walking Man who is skinny enough except for his big feet is spot on. Bravo!

Thanks Maris,

I find that an important key, whether engaged on a commissioned assignment or on purely recreational pursuits, is to remain open to gifts when the fall in your lap. Being possessed of a wry sense of humour doesn't go astray either.
