Jericho (again)

Here's one from a while ago. When I made this plate it looked nice and very clean. When I brought it home and heated it up and poured the varnish over it, all that burning around the top right hand corner appeared. I think I know now why this happened. Will have to wait and see if I can remedy this. I think it has to do with the uneven heating of the glass and also the impurities from the plate being flipped upside down, catching all the gunk in the plate holder itself, being flowed over the plate when the developer hits it. Two forward, one back, as always.

Nevertheless, it is a superb pause along the journey of your astounding development as a craft master.

Amen to that, Walter. Alex your work is astonishing. I've seen so much crappy wet plate work in the past that I've never developed an interest in it at all. But in your hands I find I'm re-evaluating my opinion of it to the point that I might even give it a go myself some time. Thank you for showing us what can be achieved.

As a photograph this is a car crash; a very creative car crash. And like the real deal along the highway, the scene that I know I shouldn't slow down and stare at, but I do, it shakes me up a little. But in a good way; a sort of exhilaration in its raw physicality.
